Das TanzLabor ist ein Projekt des ROXY Ulm. Als soziokulturelles Zentrum fördern wir Kunstformen, die in Ulm bisher wenig Raum hatten – mit einem klaren Fokus auf zeitgenössischen Tanz.
Das Besondere: Das TanzLabor verbindet die kreative Freiheit der freien Szene mit der professionellen Infrastruktur des ROXY – von Technik und Bühnenausstattung bis hin zu Künstler:innenbetreuung und Veranstaltungsorganisation. So entsteht ein idealer Rahmen, in dem sich Tanzschaffende künstlerisch weiterentwickeln und ihre Arbeiten unter besten Bedingungen präsentieren können.

Künstlerisch geleitet wird das Projekt von Pablo Sansalvador, der das TanzLabor in den letzten Jahren national und international bekannt gemacht hat. Getragen wird es vom gesamten ROXY-Team – mit Professionalität und dem Ziel, zeitgenössischen Tanz sichtbar zu machen.

What is TanzLabor?
TanzLabor is a project by ROXY Ulm. As a socio-cultural center, we support art forms that often have little space in Ulm – with a strong focus on contemporary dance.
What makes TanzLabor special is the combination of artistic freedom and professional infrastructure: ROXY provides the full support of its venue – from technical expertise and stage equipment to artist care and event production. This creates the perfect environment for dance artists to develop their work and grow professionally.
We offer:
• Residencies for dance artists
• Open rehearsals and workshops for the local audience
• Dance performances
• Free participatory formats
• and since 2025, our own dance festival ZANT
The project is artistically led by choreographer Pablo Sansalvador, who has made TanzLabor known on both the national and international dance scene. It is carried by the entire ROXY team – with professionalism, and a shared passion for making contemporary dance visible and accessible.

Where do the events take place?
Most activities take place at ROXY Ulm:

#ShowMeYourMoves! hat sich als eines der erfolgreichsten Formate des TanzLabor etabliert – und zieht Publikum wie Tanzschaffende gleichermaßen an.
An einem Abend werden mehrere kurze Stücke gezeigt – meist zwischen 10 und 15 Minuten lang. Die Beiträge werden kuratierend zusammengestellt, sodass ein vielseitiges Gesamtbild des zeitgenössischen Tanzes entsteht: von kraftvoll und experimentell bis poetisch und präzise.
Das Format bringt Choreograf:innen und Tänzer:innen aus Deutschland, Europa und der ganzen Welt zusammen – und zeigt, wie aufregend, überraschend und nahbar Tanz sein kann.
Eine Gelegenheit, die kreative Energie der internationalen Tanzszene live und unmittelbar zu erleben – auch (und gerade) für alle, die Tanz vielleicht zum ersten Mal entdecken.

Bei einer Residenz lädt das TanzLabor ausgewählte Tanzkünstler:innen ein, unsere Räume und Infrastruktur zu nutzen – um in Ruhe an neuen Projekten zu arbeiten, zu proben und ihre Ideen auf die Bühne zu bringen.
So entstehen hier regelmäßig neue Stücke, die oft über Ulm hinaus gezeigt werden und auf Tournee gehen.

What happens during a residency?
At TanzLabor, we invite selected dance artists to use our space and professional resources so they can develop new projects, rehearse, and bring their ideas to the stage in a focused environment.
Many new works have been created here and later toured successfully beyond Ulm.
Audiences are often invited to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse during open rehearsals or final sharings.
Ein Open Rehearsal ist eine offene Probe – du darfst also live dabei sein, wenn Künstler:innen an einem neuen Stück arbeiten.
Du siehst, wie Choreografien entstehen, Ideen ausprobiert und Bewegungen verändert werden. Manchmal erzählen die Tanzschaffenden zwischendurch etwas über ihren Prozess oder kommen nach der Probe mit dem Publikum ins Gespräch.
Die Atmosphäre ist locker und nahbar – du brauchst kein Vorwissen, nur Interesse und Offenheit.

What happens during an Open Rehearsal?
An Open Rehearsal is a public rehearsal – you're invited to watch dance artists as they work on a new piece.
You can experience how choreography takes shape, how ideas are tested and refined. Sometimes the artists share insights during the process or chat with the audience afterwards.
The atmosphere is informal and welcoming – no prior knowledge needed, just curiosity and openness.

Ein Final Sharing ist der Abschluss einer Residenz – die Künstler:innen zeigen, woran sie gearbeitet haben.

Das Publikum erlebt dabei Tanz in seiner offenen, experimentellen Form – direkt, nah und oft überraschend.

A Final Sharing marks the end of a residency – artists share what they've been working on.
It might be a finished piece, an early draft, or just a glimpse into their creative process.
The audience experiences dance in its raw and exploratory form – up close and often surprising.
